Credit Gone Haywire – Need Credit 101?

Having an excellent credit rating today is so important, particularly if you plan to rent an apartment, take a trip, buy a house and/or car, or even apply for a job. Your credit standing is worth so much more than you realize in today’s credit-oriented society.

High school and college graduates, in order to establish and/or maintain your credit status, you need to ask yourself the following:

  1. Are you really ready to manage credit…what has been your past credit card experience…ATM debit, or credit cards?
  2. Have you established a realistic budget including repayment of outstanding debts?
  3. Do you have a steady source of income and/or a stable employment record?
  4. Have you established a permanent residence and a phone number that can be verified?
  5. Do you have a good rental and utility payment record?
  6. Do you have a checking and/or savings accounts?
  7. Are you in default with your student loans?
